I was browsing through Gaurdian Pharmacy the other day (one of my favourite things to do:)) and I can across L’action Cosmetique’s permanent mascara. Always on the lookout for a short cut, it caught my eye and before I knew it, I was handing over $30 to the sales assistant. It is available in 2 colours- black and dark brown. Its formula is water-resistant and enables the colour to last several days. The claim is that little by little brows and lashes adopt the dye colour, making it last longer at each new application. I have been using it and I must say I like it. I am only using the eyelash side as I feel the eyebrow dye is too dark. I love that it stays put no matter how humid it is outside and also there is no flaking which irritates my very sensitive eyes. Its really easy to apply – just like your usual mascara and its dries in just 5 mins.

I am just back from a wonderful couples retreat in Bali with my husband. I decided to analyse what worked and what didn’t for my travel wardrobe capsule. See the idea of what I brought with me on a previous post at Capsule For A Five Day Tropical Holiday.
The capsule worked beautifully and I felt comfortable and appropriately dressed the majority of the time. I would have liked to have had more tops though so that I had more choice. Luckily I had the option of laundry which was extremely fast.
Be sure to read the itinerary of any retreat/ workshop/ conference you are attending carefully as I was caught out by the ‘Goddess Party’ and ended up having to improvise with a sarong.
I would also have liked to have brought along a yoga pants for our morning mediation sessions and a yoga pants takes up so little space.
Another must have is zip lock bags for wet swimmers, bottles of lotion etc. I usually keep a stash of these in my suitcase but somehow they weren’t there when I went looking for them.
Overall, I felt I did pretty well and I hope my musings will help you to travel light.

Have you been finding it difficult to find shoe sizes beyond a 39 or 40 here in Singapore? It is becoming less of an issue as more vendors are catering to sizes up to 44. Shumoo is reasonably new on the block (here about a year or so) and have beautiful on trend ballerina flats in Size Eur 35 – 44 in snake prints, zebra prints and luxurious quilted leathers. If you have learnt anything from me from reading my blog, you’ll know I am a big fan of the classics. I have chosen 3 of my favorites here; a navy blazer, a nautical striped T and stone beige shorts. These are ideal items to take on a city holiday and you can change accessories to mix up your look.
Blazer: Choose a single breasted style with a classic shape for maximum versatility. Roll up sleeves to elbows to add a modern vibe and also to instantly make you look taller and slimmer.
Striped T: Choose a slim stripe as these are universally more slimming than thicker stripes. Wear as an inner layer i.e. inside the blazer or a cardi if you are concerned that stripes are not flattering on you.
Stone Beige Shorts: Choosing the correct fabric is essential here. Avoid linen or other crisp fabrics if you are concerned with the size of you bottom and thighs. A medium to heavy weigh cotton will be more flattering for the curvaceous.
Colours: These neutral colours will pretty much work with any other colour in your wardrobe so have fun. I have added red for a pop of excitement and electric blue for a fresh, modern look.

Ever wonder what this little symbol on the back of your cosmetic products is for?
Well its to tell you how long the product is good for after opening. In this case the product is good for 12 months after which the quality of the product deteriorates so you can expect separation etc. after this time.
If your product doesn’t give an expiry date (In most cases, it is not required by law), then check if a product seems unusually discolored, runny or lumpy, has separated, has a strange odor, or feels different on the skin, then it should be thrown away. Packaging that has expanded or has signs of deterioration is definitely a warning that something is wrong inside. A product doesn’t have to be old to have gone bad or have been exposed to bacteria, so you should always pay attention to how your products are holding up every time you use them. The typical shelf life of common cosmetics are:
Foundation – Liquid: Water Based – 12 months/Oil Based – 18 months. Powder and Pressed Powder – 12 months
Concealer- 12 months
Blush- 6 months
Eye Shadow- 12 to 14 months
Eyeliner – Pencil – 2 years/ Liquid – 3 to 6 months
Mascara- 3 months
Lipstick- 2 to 3 years
Nail Color – 1 year
